Lady Leopards Lacrosse is on the Prowl!!

Updated Thursday October 13, 2016 by Lovejoy Leopards Lacrosse.

The Lovejoy Leopards Lacrosse program is proud to announce it will now offer women’s lacrosse. The Lovejoy Leopards Lacrosse program has partnered up with Kennedy Miller, a Senior at Lovejoy High School. Kennedy has taken on the challenge of helping launch the Lady Leopards Lacrosse program as her 2017 Senior Project.

Kennedy is a lacrosse veteran with 8 years of club, select, and travel team experience. She has played in tournaments throughout the nation, including Maryland, California, and Florida. Because there was no women’s program in Lovejoy, Kennedy has played with the Allen Lady Eagles Lacrosse program since the 5th grade.  She has been a varsity player for three years, has earned a letter (Allen) each year, and has been a team captain for the last two years. During the 2016 Spring season, Kennedy earned All-State accolades.

In college, Kennedy will be on the Pre-Med track, with a major in neuroscience. She intends to play lacrosse in college, but has not made her final commitment.  Kennedy plans to visit her top five choices again this fall; Columbia, Vassar, Princeton, Davidson, and Penn.

The Lady Leopards program will begin at the youth level in the Texas Girls Youth Lacrosse League starting this Fall and will begin competitive play in the 2017 Spring season. The Lady Leopards also hope to include a high school team in the future that will compete in the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League.

Kennedy will act as team ambassador, administrator, recruiter, coach, and assistant program director for the 2016-17 season. When asked why she wanted to do this, Kennedy said, “I want to make a difference with my senior project. Lacrosse has been a tremendous experience for me. I know the challenge has driven me to be a better person, student, and athlete. The Lady Leopards Lacrosse project will offer every Lady Leopard the opportunity to take on that same challenge while playing lacrosse at home, in Lovejoy.”

Also joining the Lady Leopards Lacrosse is Shannon Parengkuan. Shannon will be the program director and head coach. Shannon is an experienced player, educator, and coach. Originally from Babylon, NY, Shannon played lacrosse at Towson University, while earning a B.S. in physical education. She is a certified teacher in Maryland, New York, and Texas since graduation. Currently, Shannon is a physical education teacher at Imagine International Academy of North Texas.  She has worked with student athletes from youth to college, and has an extensive coaching background that includes basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse. Shannon has continued her focus on lacrosse in Texas, gaining experience as a volunteer coach in McKinney and as head coach in Allen.

“I am excited to be part of the Lady Leopards Lacrosse program. I welcome the opportunity to lead a program with a solid focus on academics, athletics, and achievement,” says Shannon. “We are so lucky to have a supportive partner such as Lovejoy ISD.  Mr. Puckett and the entire athletic department have been very welcoming.  The Lovejoy ISD facilities are second to none and provide the Lady Leopards program with a rock-solid foundation. This access to top-notch sports facilities will allow us to attract talented athletes from all the Lovejoy schools, grow skills safely, and compete very quickly. There is no doubt that we will have student athletes who exemplify the Lovejoy Graduate Profile.”

The Lady Leopards Lacrosse program will be hosting 3 FREE “try-it” clinics this Fall. The clinics are open to all Lovejoy girls from Kinder through 12th grade. No lacrosse experience necessary. All Lovejoy moms, dads, and prospective players are invited to come out to learn about the Lady Leopards Lacrosse program and to try lacrosse in a fun, no pressure environment. Please join Kennedy, Coach Shannon, and the rest of the Lady Leopards volunteers for one, two, or all three of these clinics. The clinics will be held on:

Saturday, October 8, from 10 am – 12 pm @ Sloan Creek Intermediate School

Saturday, October 22, from 3 pm – 5 pm @ Lovejoy High School

Saturday, November 12, from 10 am – 12 pm @ Willow Springs Middle School

Lacrosse gear will be available for players to borrow. Spread the word and bring a friend!!
