Player of the Week - Girls' High School

Kennedy Miller is a Senior at Lovejoy High School. This past year, Kennedy took on the challenge of helping the Lovejoy Lacrosse Club launch the Lady Leopards Lacrosse program as her 2017 Senior Project.

Because there was no girls’ program in Lovejoy, Kennedy played with the Allen Lady Eagles Lacrosse program since the 5th grade.  She was a varsity player for three years with Allen and earned a letter (Allen) each year.  She was named a team captain during her Sophomore and Junior years. During the 2016 Spring season, Kennedy earned All-State accolades.

Kennedy decided to skip playing lacrosse her Senior year in order to help launch the Lovejoy Girls Program. Beginning last Fall, Kennedy worked tirelessly to get the program off the ground and started. She organized and coordinated several “try-it” girls’ lacrosse clinics. She visited schools and other events to promote the new program and introduce girls to the sport of lacrosse. Kennedy has acted as team ambassador, administrator, recruiter, coach, and assistant program director over the last year. As a result of Kennedy’s efforts, the inaugural Lady Leopard season began with 4 teams, made up of over 60 players, and included players from 1st grade up through 8th grade.

Kennedy will be graduating this May. She will then be headed to Princeton University, where she intends to be on the pre-med track, and major in neuroscience.

One of Kennedy’s favorite Lovejoy Lacrosse memories is when the players called her "Coach Kennedy" for the first time.
