SPRING 2018 LOVEJOY LACROSSE SEASON INFORMATION
First, we would like to thank you for your interest in the Lovejoy Lady Leopards Lacrosse program and for visiting our website. We are looking forward to a great lacrosse year!
Registration is now open for the girls’ Spring 2018 lacrosse season for the following age groups and grade levels – Kindergarten through 8th grade. To register, just click on the red “Register Online” banner on the home page of our website. (www.lovejoylacrosse.com)
Here is some information to help answer the frequently asked questions about registration and the Spring 2018 season.
When does the Spring season start? How long is the Spring season?
Practices for our Spring season will begin on Monday, January 22, 2018. The season will end in early May, usually with an end-of-year tournament held the first weekend in May. The number of games in the Spring for each team depends on the number of teams that other area programs have. But, you can expect to play between 10-12 games throughout the Spring season.
My daughter does not attend a Lovejoy I.S.D. school, but we live in the area, can she play for Lovejoy?
The Lovejoy Lacrosse girls’ teams are open to all girls that attend, that are eligible to attend, and/or could attend any of the LISD schools. So as long as you live in the Lovejoy ISD area, your daughter can play for the Lovejoy Lacrosse club. Also, if you live in an area that does not have a girls’ lacrosse program, you are welcome to play for Lovejoy Lacrosse if we are the nearest girls’ lacrosse program. We also have several players that are home schooled or attend a private school, but play for Lovejoy because they live in the area. Potential players in the Lovejoy Lacrosse Club’s attendance zone reside in the cities/towns of Lucas, Fairview, parts of McKinney, parts of Allen, and parts of Wylie.
My daughter attends Willow Springs. Can my daughter earn off-campus PE school credit by playing lacrosse for Lovejoy?
Yes, Lovejoy Lacrosse is a Lovejoy ISD approved off-campus organization. You will find this on page 8 of the Off-Campus Physical Education form used by Lovejoy ISD. However, we are a Level 2 Sport because we do not exceed 15 hours a week of practice time necessary to be a Level 1 Sport. That just means that the lacrosse students cannot leave campus early. Should your daughter wish to use lacrosse as her OCPE sport, please inform your daughter’s coach. The coach will be the one who signs the OCPE form and the one to turn in the reports each grade period.
Will there be another "Try-It" Clinic before the Spring season starts?
Due to some scheduling conflicts, we will not be having another stand alone try-it clinic before the Spring season starts. Instead, we are going to have 2 try-it practices at the beginning of the season for anyone interested in trying out lacrosse. These will be on Monday, Jan 22 and Wednesday, Jan 24, during our normal practice times.
On what days do the teams practice in the Spring? How long are practices?
Practices in the Spring will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Monday practices will be at the Lovejoy High School football stadium. Wednesday practices will be at Willow Springs Middle School. The practice schedule for each team is:
K / 2nd Grade Team: Monday & Wednesday from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
3rd / 4th Grade Team: Monday & Wednesday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
5th / 6th Grade Team: Monday & Wednesday from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
7th / 8th Grade Team: Monday & Wednesday from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
**Please note that practice schedules - dates, times, and locations are subject to change depending on the construction schedule at the high school, field availability, and scheduling conflicts with other Lovejoy athletic programs.
Where do practices take place?
Monday practices will be at the Lovejoy High School football stadium. Wednesday practices will be at Willow Springs Middle School. If there is a conflict with the fields, you will be notified if practice is going to be cancelled or moved to a different location, which will usually be Sloan Creek Intermediate School or "The Hill" Sentry Lacrosse field on Lucas Rd.
How will I know if a game or practice has been cancelled or re-scheduled?
We communicate primarily through emails. Emails will go out using our website's emailing system. We ask that you please log-in to your account on our website and make sure the box that says "receive emails" is checked. If it is not checked, you will not receive any emails from the club or coaches and may miss out on important information.
Where are the games played?
Lovejoy home games will be played at Sloan Creek Intermediate School or at Willow Springs Middle School. Away games will be played at several different locations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Other than the registration fee, are there any other additional fees or costs that I’m required to pay?
Yes, but not much. An annual US Lacrosse membership due and uniform cost are the two additional costs for our lacrosse players.
All of our players are required to become a member of U.S. Lacrosse. The fee is $35. U.S. Lacrosse membership is good for 1 year (beginning from the date of original registration). Registration is easy. More information about U.S. Lacrosse membership can be found on their website at: http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership.aspx
If your daughter is already a U.S. Lacrosse member in current standing, then there is no need to re-register. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR DAUGHTER’S U.S. LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT. You will need your daughter’s US Lacrosse membership number and the expiration date when you register with Lovejoy Lacrosse.
Team Uniforms & Jersey Number Assignments
All players are required to get a Lovejoy Lacrosse uniform. We highly recommend that players also get a Lovejoy practice pinny. Lovejoy Lacrosse uniforms and practice pinnies are purchased through Team LAX in Frisco. The price for the uniform is $85, which includes a reversible black and white jersey and skirt. The price for the practice pinney is $25. Team LAX also offers team socks. The socks are optional. If you do purchase team socks, please make sure you get the red & black socks.
The Team LAX online store is now open. Here is the link:
When ordering – DO NOT INCLUDE a jersey number. The club will assign the jersey numbers to each player. A separate email will be sent to each new player telling them what their jersey number is. Every effort will be made to give new players 1 of their 3 preferred jersey numbers. However, we need to make sure there are no conflicts with any of the returning players on the same team.
Uniforms tend to run on the small side. If you want to try on a sample uniform, you can go to the Team LAX store to do so. They have samples for your daughter to try on. We highly recommend this so you can make sure to get the correct size. Team LAX is located at: 9201 Warren Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75035; (469) 362-8529
What equipment is required to play girls’ lacrosse?
The required equipment for girls’ lacrosse is a girl’s lacrosse stick, goggles, a mouthpiece, and cleats (either soccer or lacrosse cleats).
Where can I buy girls’ lacrosse equipment?
There are several local DFW area lacrosse stores that sell girl’s lacrosse equipment. We recommend Monkey Sports in Allen and LaxKong in Plano. You can also find used girl’s lacrosse equipment at stores like Play It Again Sports.
We have a boy’s lacrosse stick. Can my daughter use it?
No. A girl’s lacrosse stick is different than a boy’s lacrosse stick and cannot be used by girls in games. Some of the differences between girls’ and boys’ lacrosse sticks include: (1) girl’s sticks are required to have a shallow pocket; (2) girl’s sticks use different stings and do not use mesh; (3) girls’ sticks use different heads; and (4) the length of the girls’ stick can be longer than a boys’ stick.
Does Lovejoy Lacrosse have an equipment loaner program for girls?
At this time, the Lovejoy Lacrosse program does not have player loaner equipment for the girls’ game. We have applied for grants that would allow us to obtain equipment for girls’ lacrosse, which would allow us to begin an equipment loaner program for our girl players.
On what days do the teams play games in the Spring?
Games in the Spring have traditionally been played on Saturdays. However, we may have some games on Sundays or during the week, but only if necessary. Dates and times of games for the Spring season will be determined during the girls' youth league scheduling meeting currently scheduled for mid-January. Game information will be posted on our website when the information becomes available.
How many games will the team play?
During the Spring season, you can expect to play between 10-12 games.
Are there any Spring Tournaments?
Yes. We will participate in the Hockaday Play Day, which is scheduled for the weekend of March 3-4. And we will participate in the annual End-of-Year Tournament, which will be held at the beginning of May. Both tournaments are local. Details on the tournament will be sent out as soon as the info becomes available.
My daughter has never played lacrosse before. Does she need experience to play for Lovejoy?
No. The Lovejoy Lacrosse program welcomes all players. No experience is necessary. We will teach your daughter how to play lacrosse and have fun while doing so.
How many Lady Leopard teams will there be?
Registration is open to all Lovejoy area girls in Kindergarten through 8th grade. We currently have 4 girls' lacrosse teams. We will have one team at the K-2nd grade level, one at the 3rd/4th grade level, one at 5th/6th grade level, and one at the 7th/8th grade level.
Can my daughter play "up" or "down" on another Lovejoy team?
The Texas Girls’ Youth Lacrosse League allows younger girls to play “up” on other teams, but prohibits older players from playing “down” on other teams. A member of our coaching staff will contact you individually and directly, if the coach would like for your daughter to play up on another team for a specific game.
Will there be a Parent Meeting in the Spring?
Parent meetings are solely based on the decision of each team’s coach. If your daughter’s coach would like to have a parent meeting, that coach will contact the parents separately.
My daughter – and I – are new to lacrosse, what can we expect?
Expect to have fun and expect to become hooked on lacrosse. There’s a reason why lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States (and in North Texas). It’s a fun, exciting, and fast paced sport and every player on the field is involved and active throughout the game. It’s been said many times, once someone picks up a lacrosse stick and plays the game, they are hooked! Parents love it because the action is non-stop and exciting to watch. Don’t worry if you do not have any lacrosse experience. Lacrosse is an easy game to learn.
We hope this information helps. Again, thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in the Lovejoy Lady Leopards Lacrosse program.
