GIRLS' TEAMS – FALL 2018 LOVEJOY LACROSSE SEASON INFORMATION
First, we would like to thank you for your interest in the Lovejoy Lady Leopards Lacrosse program and for visiting our website. We are looking forward to another great lacrosse year!
If you haven’t done so already, registration is now open for the girls’ 2018 Fall lacrosse season for all grade levels, including our new girls high school team. To register, just click on the red “Register Online” banner at the top of the home page on our website. (www.lovejoylacrosse.com)
When does the Fall season start for the girls’ team? How long is the Fall season?
Practices for our Fall season will begin on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 for all girls’ teams. The season will end in early to mid-November (depending on the player’s team).
Who are the Coaches for the girls’ teams?
We have hired several new coaches to coach our girls’ teams. All of our new coaches are former NCAA women’s lacrosse players and/or former NCAA women’s college coaches. For the Fall, the coaches for each Lady Leopard team will be:
High School team - Head Coach Rainey Hodgson; Assistant Coach Madi Castelein
7th/8th Grade team - Head Coach Rainey Hodgson
5th/6th Grade team - Head Coach Kilee DeBrabander
K/4th Grade team - Head Coach Madi Castelein
For any questions you may have about your daughter’s team or daughter’s coach, we ask that you please contact one of the following board members first:
7th/8th grade – High School teams: David Diaz (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Kinder – 6th grade teams: Stacy Nichols (email@example.com)
Board President: Misti Friesland (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Can I volunteer to help coach or to help on game days?
Yes. We are always looking for parents and family members to help out our program. However, before anyone will be allowed to assist during practices and games, there are certain requirements that need to be met and documents that need to be filled out first for both Lovejoy Lacrosse and Lovejoy Independent School District. These items need to be done each year. So, even if you were approved to volunteer and assist last season/year, you still need to get approved this season/year.
If anyone is interested in volunteering and helping out as an assistant coach for the girls’ youth level teams or for game day assistance for any or all girl teams, please contact the appropriate Lovejoy Lacrosse board member (listed above) for the team you wish to volunteer for.
We will be forming an advisory committee this year for our girls’ teams. The committee will consist of the High School Head Coach, both girl division board members, and two parents – one parent from the Bantam level teams (Kinder – 4th grade) and one parent from the Junior level teams (5th – 8th grade).
If you are interested in serving on the advisory committee, we ask that you please let us know by replying to this email. In your email, please include: (1) your name, (2) your telephone number, (3) which team your daughter is on, and (4) a brief explanation on why you would like to serve on the advisory committee.
How much are the Fall season registration fees for the girls’ teams?
The fees for the Fall Ball season are:
K/2nd Grade Team: $210
3rd/4th Grade Team: $250
5th/6th Grade Team: $250
7th/8th Grade Team: $250
High School Team: $275
Are there any other additional fees that I’m required to pay?
Yes, but not much. All of our players are required to become a member of U.S. Lacrosse. The fee is $30. U.S. Lacrosse membership is good for 1 year (beginning from the date of original registration). Registration is easy. More information about U.S. Lacrosse membership can be found on their website at: http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership.aspx
If your daughter is already a U.S. Lacrosse member in current standing, then there is no need to re-register. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR DAUGHTER’S U.S. LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT. You will need your daughter’s US Lacrosse membership number and the expiration date during the registration process.
Also, all players are required to purchase a Lovejoy practice pinney. (More info on the practice pinney is below).
What is the practice schedule for the girls’ teams? How long are practices?
We will have the same practice schedule we had last Fall for all of our girls’ youth teams. The youth teams (Kinder – 8th grade) will practice 2 days each week. The high school team will practice 3 days each week.
For the K/2nd, the 3rd/4th, the 5th/6th, & the 7th/8th Grade Teams:
Wednesdays, 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Willow Springs Middle School
Saturdays, 9 am – 10:30 am at Willow Springs Middle School
For the High School Team:
Wednesdays, 7:30 pm – 9 pm at Willow Springs Middle School
Thursdays, 6 pm – 7:30 pm at The Hill (2190 W. Lucas Rd., Lucas, Texas 75002)
Saturdays, 10:30 am – 12 pm at Willow Springs Middle School
In addition, this season, Coach Rainey will be conducting a one (1) hour skills and drills practice session every Thursday evening after the high school team practice from 7:30-8:30 pm. These practice sessions are open to players in 7th grade and higher. These practices are voluntary and each week the practice will be focused on a specific part of the game.
**Please note that practice schedules - dates, times, and locations are subject to change depending on a variety of factors, including weather, field availability, and unexpected conflicts with other Lovejoy ISD sport teams or school events. If there is a change to the practice schedule, we will let everyone know.
How will I know if a practice has been cancelled or the location or time have been changed?
We communicate with parents primarily via email. Any practice or game cancellations or changes to practice and game schedules will be sent to the email address you provided during the registration process. Cancellations and changes may also be sent out via our text notification system through our website.
We ask that you PLEASE log in to your Lovejoy Lacrosse account and make sure that the box that allows you to receive emails and to receive texts are checked off.
Additionally, some head coaches may use their own messaging system to communicate with parents. Some of these include Remind and GameChanger. If your daughter’s head coach will be using one of these additional messaging systems, they will let you know.
What is Lovejoy Lacrosse policy on cancelling practices and games for inclement weather?
Our website has our full inclement weather procedures and policies. In short, the Lovejoy Board will make the final call on practice and game cancellations due to inclement weather. Lovejoy Lacrosse is not an “official” LISD school sport so LISD’s guidelines for cancellations is different than those of Lovejoy Lacrosse.
My daughter plays another sport or has another school activity that conflicts with one of the practice days. Is it okay if she misses some of the practices?
Yes. We understand that there are players that play multiple sports or are involved in other school activities. Because of this, our coaches know that there will be some players that miss some practices. All we ask is that you notify either the coach or the appropriate board member when your daughter will be missing a practice.
Can my daughter get Off Campus PE credit?
Yes. For players in middle school and in high school, your daughter can get Off-Campus PE credit for playing lacrosse. Lovejoy Lacrosse is an "approved" off-campus sport. The credits are 1/2 credit per semester, and the student can earn up to 2 credits maximum. However, please note that lacrosse is a Level 2 off-campus PE program. Level 2 means that the student cannot be dismissed from school early. If you are interested in Off-Campus PE for your daughter, then you will need to fill out and turn in the Lovejoy ISD Off-Campus PE application found on the Lovejoy ISD Athletic website under “forms”.
Is my daughter required to get a physical to play lacrosse?
No. Lovejoy Lacrosse does not require a player to get a physical before playing lacrosse. Lacrosse is not an official U.I.L. sport. As such, certain U.I.L. rules and requirements do not apply to Lovejoy Lacrosse.
On what days do the teams play games in the Fall?
Games in the Fall will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. Dates and times of games for the Fall season will be set by the teams sometime shortly after the Labor Day weekend. For Saturday games, we try to schedule games during the morning and early afternoon. For Sunday games, we try to schedule games for early afternoon. Game information for each team will be posted on our website when the information becomes available.
How many games do the girls’ lacrosse teams play in the Fall?
For the Fall season, we expect to play between 4-6 games/scrimmages and play in at least one local tournament. The number of games/scrimmages in the Fall will depend on the number of teams that other local area programs have in the Fall. Player numbers in the Fall are light for most DFW girls programs due to other Fall sports and school activities so some area programs will not, or may not, field a girls’ lacrosse team in the Fall. We are currently in the process of talking with other area programs to try and schedule games.
We are planning on playing in at least one local tournament in the Fall. The name of the tournament is the Turlaxin’ Tournament in McKinney on October 20-21, 2018.
We may play in a second local tournament. We are currently waiting for more information from the tournament director about the details.
Where are the games played?
Lovejoy home games will be played either at Willow Springs Middle School or Sloan Creek Intermediate School. Away games can be played at several different places in the Dallas / North Texas area depending on our opponent.
My daughter does not attend a Lovejoy I.S.D. school, but we live in the area, can she play for Lovejoy?
Possibly. The Lovejoy Lacrosse girls’ teams are open to all girls that attend, that are eligible to attend, and/or could attend any of the LISD schools. So as long as you live in the Lovejoy ISD area, your daughter can play for the Lovejoy Lacrosse club. We have several players that are home schooled or attend a private school, but play for Lovejoy because they live in the area.
Also, if you live in a surrounding area that does not have girls lacrosse program, your daughter can play for Lovejoy Lacrosse club if we are the closest lacrosse program to where you live. Potential players in the Lovejoy Lacrosse Club’s attendance zone reside in the cities/towns of Lucas, Fairview, parts of McKinney, parts of Allen, and parts of Wylie, Murphy, and Sachse.
Both the Texas Girls Lacrosse League (youth teams) and the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League (high school teams) have very specific eligibility and residency requirements. If you are unsure if your daughter can play for Lovejoy Lacrosse, please contact us and we can answer any questions you may have.
My daughter has never played lacrosse before. Does she need experience to play for Lovejoy?
No. The Lovejoy Lacrosse program welcomes all players. No experience necessary. Our coaches are experienced in working with players of all ages and all skill levels.
How many Lady Leopard teams will there be?
We will have a team for girls in Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.
What equipment is required to play girls’ lacrosse?
The required equipment for girls’ lacrosse is a girl’s lacrosse stick, goggles, a mouthpiece, and cleats (either soccer or lacrosse cleats). The optional equipment for girls’ lacrosse are helmets and girls’ lacrosse gloves.
We have a boy’s lacrosse stick. Can my daughter use it?
No. A girl’s lacrosse stick is different than a boy’s lacrosse stick. Some of the differences between girls’ and boys’ lacrosse sticks include: (1) girl’s sticks are required to have a shallow pocket; (2) girl’s sticks use different stings; (3) girls’ sticks use different heads; and (4) the length of the girls’ stick can be longer than a boys’ stick.
Where can I buy girls’ lacrosse equipment?
There are several local DFW area lacrosse stores that sell girl’s lacrosse equipment. For new equipment, we recommend Monkey Sports in Allen and LaxKong in Plano, and Not Just Soccer in Dallas. You can also find used girl’s lacrosse equipment at stores like Play It Again Sports in McKinney and Plano.
Does Lovejoy Lacrosse have an equipment loaner program for girls?
Unfortunately, at this time, the Lovejoy Lacrosse program does not have player loaner equipment for the girls’ game.
Where and how do I order my daughter a team uniform?
For the Fall season, all players are required to purchase a Lovejoy Lacrosse practice pinney. The pinney can be worn for games during the Fall. The Lovejoy Lacrosse practice pinnies must be purchased through Team LAX in Frisco. The price for the practice pinney is $25. Once your daughter’s jersey number is assigned, you can walk into Team LAX and pick up the pinney.
Team LAX is located at: 9201 Warren Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75035; (469) 362-8529
For the Spring season, all players are required to purchase a Lovejoy Lacrosse uniform, along with a practice pinney. So, if you are planning on your daughter to play lacrosse in the Spring also, then feel free to purchase a Lovejoy Lacrosse uniform this season. Uniforms, like the practice pinney, are purchased through Team LAX in Frisco. The price for the uniform is $85, which includes a reversible black and white jersey and skirt. We will instruct Team LAX to open an online store so that uniform orders can be placed. As soon as we get the link for the online store, we will send it out to everyone.
PLEASE NOTE: Uniforms tend to run on the small side. If you want to try on a sample uniform, you can go to Team LAX to do so. They have samples for your daughter to try on. We highly recommend this so you can make sure to get the correct size.
What will my daughter’s uniform number be?
When ordering – DO NOT INCLUDE a jersey number. LEAVE THAT BOX BLANK, if the box exists. The club will assign the jersey numbers. Every effort will be made to give new players 1 of their 3 preferred jersey numbers. However, we need to make sure there are no conflicts with any of the returning players on the same team. You will be notified of your daughter’s jersey number soon.
My daughter – and I – are new to lacrosse, what can we expect?
Expect to have fun and expect to become hooked on lacrosse. There’s a reason why lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States (and in North Texas). It’s a fun, exciting, and fast paced sport and every player on the field is involved and active throughout the game. It’s been said many times, once someone picks up a lacrosse stick and plays the game, they are hooked! Parents love it because the action is non-stop and exciting to watch. Don’t worry if you do not have any lacrosse experience. Lacrosse is an easy game to learn.
We hope this information helps. Again, thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in the Lovejoy Lady Leopards Lacrosse program.
